Georgia Series: A Short Study of the Marshland.

Boynton Beach : 'Art in Public Places' part 3

I had the pleasure of working with the City of Boynton Beach, and their Art in Public Places program again this year for the 3rd time in a 12 month period! This is the 3rd mural I have created for the city, and my favorite so far! With the inter coastal and Inlet to the ocean directly behind me the whole time I could't complain one bit!! A Special Thanks to Debbie Coles-Dobay for pushing the right concepts through to the right people to help make Boynton a more beautiful place!. This mural is located next to another one i painted in the same park as part of a new renovation for Boat Club Park.

I had the Pleasure of Working with Eaton Fine Art Gallery in West Palm to show my most recent body of work. Special thanks to Nichole Hickey, and Maxwell Eaton for Curating and Directing the show, as well as bringing a crowd! Also a special thanks to Gallery owner Timothy Eaton.

I have been in the studio and in the water emersing myself in other worlds,being on and in the water, and research of the oceans, putting the experiences and emotions that come with them onto canvas. The struggles beneath the surface reflect our modern society more than we usually recognize. I have chosen to acknowledge this Conclusion as a truth. We are all animals and our Basic instincts come down to a few certain duties of survival. Just as our civilized race proves. In nature, We all have interesting conflicting qualities.

Towards the end of my time to prepare for the show i decided to switch gears in a direction I had been very intrigued by in recent months. An Anaglyph image is used to provide a stereoscopic 3D effect, when viewed with 2 color glasses (each lens a chromatically opposite color, usually red and cyan). Images are made up of two color layers, superimposed, but offset with respect to each other to produce a depth effect.I hadnt really researched much until a friend of mine sparked the idea again recently. It was a fun project to see how I could get a forced reaction between the viewer and the artwork.Tryptic Anaglyph . 2010

Billabong Fashion Show Benifit for 'Surfers for Autism' fundraiser

This past week, Surfers for Autism had their first Fashion show benefit put on by host sponsor Billabong. They did an outstanding job and we had a packed house at Dada's in Delray Beach. There were people overflowing into the street watching the show. Also special thanks to Nomad Surfshop. I had the pleasure to do some custom art on the board the night before the show! the Board was raffled off, and the event raised over $3,000. thanks to all who showed support!!

As many of you know, and for those who missed it, The Black Keys came into town last night with a Kick Ass show at the Fillmore in Miami Beach. Ray Brown of Brownoise Design and I had the oppurtunity to do a collaboration, limited edition of 100 Screen Printed Posters for Live Nation, The Fillmore and The Black Keys. This was insane for me being that The Black Keys are at the top of my list for all time favorite bands, I can speak for Ray on that one too, So the poster evolved naturally for us as a collaboration. The posters are on sale for $40, there are about 40 left, out of the 100 total.....

Hand Pulled Screen Prints.....

It's been a long time coming, but we've finally set up shop for hand pulled screen-printed posters, fine art prints and up to 4 color t-shirts (Thanks to Curtis Brown, Singer of Remain Calm). My Friend Ray Brown of BrownNoise design had a big hand in making this all possible. Together we built a vacuum table for the prints and poster runs, we also pulled together to get the in house darkroom going. Another friend of ours Tim Brown, was in town from Maui, Hi. and pulled through with some clutch printing supplies just in time for our first run of prints. A collaboration between the three of us we like to call " Gnar Shark" we went a little overboard with layers but, a lot of initial tweaking of our process of burning the screens, and testing photo emulsions was necessary for the initial run.............

This show is a collection of diverse street, visionary, surreal, and tattoo art created by emerging artists whose vision encompasses erasing the barrier that separates the affluent art scene from the underground art world.

Eat Your Art Out is a movement toward bringing in emerging artists to push the envelope outside mainstream art and make it socially warranted in today’s art scene. Artists from a variety of artistic genres have collaborated together for one week to exhibit a dynamic fusion of diverse mediums presented on canvas, multimedia, sculptures, installations and photography.

Featuring works by: Chet Zar, Edgar Velasquez, Crome, Abstrk, Nineteen, AS1, Quake, Evils, Dekal, Gere, Juan Velasquez, Michael D. Walsh, Billi Kid, Joshua Noblock, Brandon Opalka, Ryan Mackeen, Seth Mathurin, Jose Mertz, Enve, Michael Lee Suarez, Evo, and John Vale.

The exhibition includes a collaboration with various other art groups including Primary Flights, Super Rad Toys and Modani Furniture.

“The common goal here is to showcase subversive artworks and make a statement in today’s conventional art scene,” says Evils of the Miami Style Graffiti (MSG) Cartel.

Boynton Beach Mural Project....

A year ago we set out to get this wall, the city of Boynton Beach wanted a mural in the Sarah Sims Public Park for there Art in Public Places program. After being on the backburner for a year, the city finally gave the go ahead with this unique project. It brought in the communities at risk youths to be a part of the process. In the end, the youths did not paint on the wall because the skill level was not quite up to par YET, but they often gave their two-cents on what might look dope. I ended up coming up with a sketch including 4 different genres of African American inspired music, considering this neighborhood is almost 100% Black, it was fitting for the community. I came up with the sketch by integrating parts from my paintings, and found imagery of musical artists together.

A big thanks to Venom-LMA, for originally bringing me in on this project from the get go. and of course, the city of Boynton Beach for the opportunity.

Guest artists: Jermaine Johnson, Chan Shepard

Jermaine is a local artist who grew up on the same block as the wall, he passed by it one day while we were working and wanted to know if he could participate, I told him yes if he could come back with some examples of work. The dude came back with a full airbrushed sketch of a DJ, to replace the one i was gong to paint. So i gave him the go ahead. He ended up painting the DJ in the middle of the wall, using Cans and brush. This was one of the dopest parts of the project, cause it brought in someone from the community.

Boynton Beach Mural Project: Demo session with the kids

On Saturday Sept 26th, Doug, Griff and I held a demonstration, coinciding with the Mural we were commissioned for, by the city of Boynton Beach coming up in November. It turned into a Spray-painting free for all for the kids, while still managing to inform them of techniques and History of Graff, and positive benifits of art in the community. They and us had a great time and the small event was a big success. The photos below are from the first of three painting sessions with the kids and, The project will end with us painting a 25'x100' Mural in Boynton Beach the first 10 days in November.

"Most mural projects commission an artist(s) to paint a single wall for public art demonstration purposes. This project includes an educational and community component. Graffiti Art is a unique form of art which is challenging to master. It is very appealing to the youth and a great way for them to positively express themselves. One of the Brevard Art Museums most talked about exhibits "From Gutter To Gallery" is moving to SLOW Gallery. Exhibiting "graffiti art" in its most artistic form, "From Gutter To Gallery" has had such great response from so many that we have decided to continue the exhibit at SLOW Gallery free of charge and open to all ages. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase limited edition copies of "Miami Graffiti" the book signed by the exhibiting artists, and raffle tickets for their chance to win one of several live painted works of art. Also enjoy exhibiting photographer and DJ, Casey DeCotis, spinning a variety of eclectic music throughout the evening. At midnight stroll down the block to The Firehouse Lounge for the official after party, cocktails, and appetizers. Hope to see you there.

As some of you know I traveled to Los Angeles for an art show along with fellow Graffiti artists and crews chosen from the new Book; "Miami Graffiti", by Jim and Karla Murray, and Prestel Publishing. The book was released in May, Worldwide!

Mid City arts Gallery Held a show featuring our work. The adjoining store, 33third, next to the gallery featured large scale productions of our work in the back outside space. The work was up for 30 days. Below are a couple videos and several photos from the gallery and wall exhibits.

Mid-City Arts continues to bring the best of street art to Los Angeles with its latest show honoring the Miami graffiti scene. “Miami Graffiti” opens July 11, 7pm – 9pm and will be on view through July 26th.
Rapidly becoming one of the United States’ top graffiti destinations, Miami, Florida is home to a deep well of talented artists driven by a fiercely competitive graffiti scene. Miami’s profile has risen thanks to the city’s role as host to the famed “Art Basel” and most recently “Primary Flight.” “Primary Flight” is the internationally acclaimed, site-specific, street level mural installation that takes place during Art Basel. Artists that have graced the Primary Flight walls include Crome, MSG, Typoe as well as Blek Le Rat, Retna, El Mac, David Choe, Revok and many others.
Miami Graffiti by photographers Jim and Karla Murray is the first book to capture Miami’s graffiti scene. Documenting 20+ years of graffiti art and history along with Miami’s most notorious crews and writers, Miami Graffiti is a detailed presentation of South Florida’s past, present, and future of graffiti.
Mid City Arts’ “Miami Graffiti” show is a celebration of the release of Jim and Karla Murray’s book – they will be on hand to sign books - and a showcase of some of Florida’s finest street artists from the MSG, TCP, SH and THC crews. Artists from these crews are coming out to Los Angeles and will be displaying their work in the gallery as well as customizing the gallery’s back yard space. Featured artists include Crome, Typoe, Acme, Enve, Murder, Afex, Kemo, Cynic, Gere, Flojoe and others. The show is curated by “Slow”.

Doug Hoekzema put together this Insane Mural Re-interpreting the works and illustrations of Ernst Haekel, at the new 18 Rbbit Gallery in Downtown Ft.Lauderdale, the mural co-incided with the Dialect show just across the street.....

Doug asked Me, Angel Mir, Raphael Rodriguez and Tren to help out with the wall also....

Background on Ernst Haeckel:
Ernst Haeckel was an eminent German biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor and artist who discovered, described and named thousands of new species, mapped a genealogical tree relating all life forms, and coined many terms in biology, including phylum, phylogeny, ecology and the kingdom Protista. Haeckel promoted and popularized Charles Darwin's work in Germany and developed the controversial recapitulation theory ("ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny") claiming that an individual organism's biological development, or ontogeny, parallels and summarizes its species' entire evolutionary development, or phylogeny.

This is an example of an etching illustration he did of microscopic organisms he Discovered......

My good friend Ilian Valesco, Founder of Enticement design, put together another awesome show at 'The Brew' cafe in Downtown Ft.Lauderdale. This time the exhibit 'went street' with the works of local graffiti artists paintings and installations.
